I was lucky enough to be able to contribute a painting to an art book being included in the Limited Edition of the HD Hitman Trilogy released by Square Enix.

Well, I seem to be ignoring this blog. For the most timely updates, my tumblr seems to be getting all the love.

Anyway, this here painting was done for the inaugural show at Gauntlet Gallery, a new space in San Francisco. The show’s theme is movies of the 1980′s. I picked Labyrinth.

Watercolors, what?!

A long time ago now I used to watercolor a lot. But I think the last time I water colored in earnest was almost 10 years ago (maybe 9). Anyway, I got an inking to break out the water colors. See if the tubes of paint were still usable and give it whirl.

I decided to use a drawing I had done as an acrylic painting during a demo in my friend Lindsay’s class a few weeks back. SO I’ll show both paintings together, because, why not?

Here are both of them together.

And the water color bigger. I sort of remembered what I was doing. Biggest challenge was trying to remember I have to paint light to dark, opposite of acrylic.

And the bigger acrylic.

It was fun to use the watercolors again. I’ll probably keep playing around with them. I am amazed most of the paint tubes seem to have survived nearly a decade in storage.

Gallery 1988 is holding their second annual old school video game show. I chose to do Gordon Freeman from the long running (relatively speaking) half-life series.

He needed a well-deserved break after fighting off those inter-dimensional beings.

Premium Cable

A brand new gallery just opened in Brooklyn, NY (my old stomping grounds) called Bottleneck Gallery. Their first show, titled “More Than You Imagined: Art Inspired by Premium Cable” is, as the title suggests a show dedicated to the finer aspects of premium cable.

It was a hard decision as to which show to take on, but in the end I gave my nod to ‘Flight of the Conchords’.

Spoiler Alert, but I imagine after they got deported back to New Zealand they probably reverted to their natural form as Merino Sheep…
