SO, it’s been a little while since I posted. That is because I have been working diligently on 2 new paintings for an art show in LA at Gallery 1988 based on Toys.
The toys I opted for are the mid-eighties tiny pink plastic wrestling figures known as M.U.S.C.L.E. Men. Here is what I made:
The M.U.S.C.L.E. Men Diptych, acrylic on canvas, 15″x15″ each
Here are the individual paintings a bit bigger:

The M.U.S.C.L.E. Men Left

The M.U.S.C.L.E. Men Right
Here is some of the process.

The initial drawings for the poses. You can see the legs were the hardest thing to nail down.

Here is the final drawing for the composition. It is a combination of a background figured out in Illustrator, and the figures refined and placed.

And a shot of the paintings in progress. The background was mostly complete by this point, and the characters were full blocked in and being worked up.
