Gallery 1988 is having a show opening January 13 with an Adult Swim theme. My favorite Adult Theme show is definitely The Venture Brothers, heck, I think it might be my favorite cartoon on right now. A fine show, full of fine characters. These are what I made (all acrylic on maple):

Wow, I realize I never posted anything about the Bill Murray art show I participated in at Gallery 1988 is LA.  Check out the show here (I think its still up at the gallery too): Link!

Now, for my Bill Murray, I decided not to reference any specific movie, but more just the fella himself. And what do I like as much as Mr. Murray? Painting wrinkles and folds. SO, I combined these two things I like, Bill and painting wrinkles and painted Bill with lots of wrinkles.

Delightful!

I am participating this the Second Annual Bad Dads show at Spoke Art in San Francisco.

I made three paintings depiciting Max Fischer (Jason Schwartzman) from Rushmore, decked out in various ‘extra curicular’ garb.

I opted to draw inspiration from one of my favorite series of point and click adventure games: Monkey Island. And who is the best character in the game?! Murray probably, but second best is LeChuck, the Zombie Pirate.

Here is my take on him, based of the original game:

It is 8×10, acrylic on maple wood and titled: “LeChuck”

And it just occurred to me that’s nearly the same name as my Garbage Pail Kid, weird…

And for fun, LeChuck as he appeared in the game

I got to participate in the Gallrty 1988 Garbage Pail Kids show, it opened last night at their Melrose location. (Edit: check out all the work here: http://nineteeneightyeight.com/collections/garbage-pail-kids-original-artwork)

I have fond memories of Garbage Pail Kids from when I was a child.  And one of the running themes I always enjoyed was the vomit. So I based my card off the first ever vomit card from Series 1,’Up Chuck/Heavin Steven’, but really, the painting is an homage to them all.

Here it is:

Hello there. Crazy 4 Cult 5 at Gallery 1988 is just around the corner. It opens July 8 in LA. I have some work in the show, for which I will now share with you.

The movie I picked is Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Portraits of 3 of the key elements to the quest for the holy grail, all of whom have swell facial hair.

“It is a good shrubbery.”

“There are some who call me… Tim?”

“Uh, he’s already got one, you see?”

All 3 are 5″ x 7″ acrylic on Maple.

A few weeks ago i posted a couple paintings of Wet Hot American Summer characters. They were for the following art show which opened last night in LA.

I have a couple pieces in a show coming up in June based on the movie “Wet Hot American Summer” more information on the show later, but I finished the pieces so, post them I will.

This is Jo Lo Truligo’s character Neil, it is called, “You’re making a big mistake, Victor Kulak!”

and…

This is Ken Marino’s character Victor, it is called, “Wait for me Abby Bernstein!”

Both of which are 8″X8″ acrylic on maple panels.

I didn’t seal or treat the wood in anyway, as opposed to all those basswood rounds I have done. I’ve never really painted on untreated wood before, its kind of like watercolor paper that can give you splinters. I like it. Not the splinters part… (I didn’t actually get any splinters)
