Ten-Paces and a Farmers Tan
I participated in the collaborative illustration blog Ten Paces this past week. The topic was ‘Farm’
I made a sketch for someone else to finish, and I recieved a sketch for me to finish. Here is my finished pieced:

Acrylic on watercolor paper
Is is based on a sketch by Paul Windle. Here is that sketch:
And here is the sketch I made and the finished piece done by Rachel Dougherty.

I’ll be doing some more topics for ten paces over the coming months. Should be fun.
Hey, it’s cardboard….
Hey, what do you know I made a cardboard painting. I also made another brush-pen drawing. And they are the same thing! Bonus points or something…

Good times.

I got one of the new (or old?) fangled Pentel Pocket Brush pens, then refillable brush pen with a tip made out of actual bristles, like a real brush….
Anyway, I thought I’d share a little drawing I made with it.

It is fun to use. I am glad I got it.
Paint-sketch or sketch-paint or paint and sketch or whatever…
I was staring at a couple sketchbooks I have sitting on my desk all the time. They don’t get much love, in lieu of a graph-paper notebook. However, the have a benefit of thick smooth paper. And sometimes I think I should paint in them. I did once long ago. This weekend, I decided to try painting in one again. For two purposes: to test out some new paint colors and to remind myself I should paint in these sketchbooks more often. So here you go:

If you have a true eagle eye you may think to yourself, ‘Wait a minute, this looks familiar!’ Well, it might, it was sort of painted before when I was trying out my golden opens.

Quantity not quality. Or how I spent my time in and around planes* Super long post by the way

*Which was clearly a quantity of time, not quality. Well, maybe not…
Anyway, I flew to and from Minneapolis this past weekend for a kick-ass wedding between my amazing friends Chris and Lindsay (links in the ol’ link area, check ‘em out). Now, normally I might read or something but I was without book and I didn’t have the where-with-all (is this the correct phrase? It’s not like intensive purposes in my mind and intents and purposes in reality? hmmm….) to play video games. So I doodled. Normally I doodle for an hour or something maybe fill a few pages before getting bored and quiting. But for some reason I had an epic doodle session over the two days I actually flew. I filled up 26 pages (13 front and back). So I decided to scan all of them and post them here. You can see how I doodle if you care. Maybe some of this will become a painting, who knows… Without further ado:

One: This is where it began, and where I assumed it would end…

Two: Oh, wait, no, it keeps going…

Three: Here is where I attempt to draw from observation for a while.

Four: Here is where I gave up on that.

Five: This page is sort of lacking in coverage, maybe it’s cheating…

Six: Am I on the plane yet? I don’t remember…

Seven: That dog looks sort of familiar, maybe…

Eight: I am pretty sure this is when that dude spilled his OJ. Good thing I had all those napkins in my pocket.

Nine: Oh, and now he is trying to talk to me… So I quit.

Ten: This is day two, a few days later.

Eleven: Hey, I’m on a plane again!

Twelve: I tried to slow down so I drew lots of tiny hairs.

Thirteen These are mostly pairings of people who annoy each other. Hey, that dog is back.
And that’s all. Hmm, seems less prolific when I caption it all. I’ll probably never do another post like this again, so don’t worry. It’s over now.
More MS Paint excitement.
I keep doodling in MS paint while watching things on the ol’ computer. All a mix of white and black brush done with a mouse. So long as I keep making these I’ll keep posting batches time to time. Here is a sampling.

MS Paint
I watch movies and whatnot on my computer. Often times while doing this I open up MS Paint in a window off to the side and proceed to doodle in there with the mouse. Now, I am not generally inclined to save any of what I do, but I made a couple MS Paint doodles while watching Manhattan the other day that I was sort of fond of. Here they are:

Small things in shades of gray
This post is just a few small things from the past few days, all done in black and white and grays. The first two are some doodles I did while sitting in an airplane waiting to take off the other day. I had 3 brush pens and a moleskine with me. These were the results:

And secondly, I decided to give the new Golden Open acrylic paints a try. Their thing is that they dry extra slow so you can work them a bit longer, more like oils perhaps. This was quick, maybe 30 minutes with just bone black and titanium white. I am not displeased with the result and found the paint itself to be quite nice to work with. I might have to get more colors and add it into my regular rotation of paints. More experiments and tests to come…

Bubbles
I made this doodle recently.

I decided to make it into a digital piece. So I made this thing.

The doodle was kind of cute. This, I think, is just sort of strange…
It's done!
Hello,
I have spent quite a lot of time working towards a painting for the upcoming Crazy 4 Cult 2: This Time It’s Personal art show opening at Gallery1988 in LA on August 22. Tonight I finished it up.
The painting is inspired by the movie Evil Dead 2.
Here it is:

it is 18″ x 22″ acrylic on linen, titled: Effervescent Pestilence
And here are some progress shots:

This is the original drawing I did for the painting. This went through many revisions before I got to this point. Starting off all I knew was I wanted a bubbling hole in the forest with the monsters from the movie all lumped together. It slowly formed from that vague idea into this.

This is the drawing freshly transfered onto the surface.

The under painting is done, and I have started to block in the color.

The color and forms are getting more refined, and things are starting to take shape.

By this point most everything had been figured out and all that was left was polish.
That’s all.
